Vanessa has always been drawn to the deep mysteries of God and the practice of listening for the divine voice. Growing up in a small rural African American church in the Southeast, she was shaped by a faith community where conversation with God was a natural and lived experience. She was especially intrigued by how some seemed uniquely gifted to share God’s messages while others longed to hear directly. This lifelong curiosity led her to study the art of spiritual direction and discernment.  

Now a spiritual director, educator, and Presbyterian (U.S.A.) minister, Vanessa brings a womanist perspective to her work, ensuring that it is inclusive and rooted in justice. She has taught in both national and international settings, guiding others in deepening their spiritual journeys. She received her training in spiritual direction from San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo, CA.
